considering the tenets of content aggregation on the internet and the tug-of-war that that poses with creative expression

I just designed a web site. Been considering the methods of content generation lately, and have decided to go from not at all freeform (Drupal, bless it) to entirely freeform. For now, consider:

- Tumblr as "way more better-suited for Reacting To Media than it does actually Authoring A Piece" (ty swift)
- this tour de force by Diana Kimball, discussing the formation of a well-oiled system for creating excellent things
- Merlin Mann's shift of direction

You know? It seems like these days, this season maybe, we are all kicking over the proverbial card table, or want to. Partly that is what smart people do, but it's more than that. I think people are getting concerned about the way that you can connect to the creation of information online, both interface- and IA-wise. I am worried that our attempts to institute elegance in that can come at the expense of truly varied content. That it can put up artificial barriers that people find confining, when they are instead meant to guide them along the right path. It's like bumper bowling, or Lakitu pulling you out of the water in Mario Kart, but I want to make mistakes and I want the path to be hard, because life is reflected better that way.
